Skin Whitening Product Ingredients – Alpha Lipoic Acid

A number of gluta brands contain Alpha Lipoic Acid, or known as ALA. What is it? Is it a ingredient that makes the skin lighter? Are there any side effects on our body?

Alpha Lipoic Acid is one of the most effective antioxidants. It is also a powerful anti-inflammatory and anti-aging agent. Termed as a universal antioxidant, it can work both in water and fat, thus they are fat and water-soluble. It can pass even easily pass through our brain, going through the brain’s thin protective layer. ALA is also absorbed easily by our skin’s lipid layers. It is also hundreds of times stronger compared to Vit C & E combined.

Here are the its benefits to the skin:

  • decrease puffiness and eye circles
  • helps in reducing swelling in the face
  • evens out skin tone by reducing redness, discoloration and blotchiness
  • shrinks skin pore size
  • minimizes wrinkles and lines
  • makes skin glowing and vibrant

Lipoic acid can be found in a number of food sources, although they can be slightly found in organ meats(kidney, liver, heart), and broccoli, yeast extract and spinach.

LA is also approved in drugs for diabetes in Germany –

Clinical side effects of ALA include:

  • skin rash
  • headache
  • muscle cramps

For children, those with kidney/liver problems, and pregnant or lactating women, clinical use of ALA is not advised.
